Josh Boyer (born January 21, 1977)[1] is an Americanfootball coach who is a defensive quality control coach for theOhio State Buckeyes.[2] Boyer previously coached with theNew England Patriots and multiple college football teams.
After graduating fromMuskingum College,[1] where he played football as awide receiver and defensive back, he began his coaching career in 2000 as a graduate assistant atKing's College, Pennsylvania. He then served in the same capacity at theUniversity of Dayton in 2001 andKent State University in 2002 and 2003. In 2004, Boyer served as thedefensive backs coach atBryant University. He then served as thedefensive coordinator at theSouth Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2005 before joining theNew England Patriots in2006.
Boyer joined the Patriots in 2006 as a defensive coaching assistant.[3] He was promoted to defensive backs coach following the2008 season. In2012, his title was changed tocornerbacks coach.[4] Boyer won three Super Bowls and six AFC Championships with the Patriots.[5][6][7][8][9]
In2019, Boyer left the Patriots, followingBrian Flores to theMiami Dolphins. He became the team's defensive pass game coordinator and cornerbacks coach.[10] In2020, he was promoted to defensive coordinator.[11] On January 19, 2023, Miami fired him as defensive coordinator.[12]
In 2025, Boyer joined the Ohio State Buckeyes as a defensive quality control coach.[13]
