Joseph Stancliffe Davis (November 5, 1885 – April 23, 1975) was an American economist. He was a professor of economics atStanford University and a long-time director of the newly establishedFood Research Institute.[1][2] In 1944, he served as president of theAmerican Economic Association.[3] He was a member of PresidentEisenhower'sCouncil of Economic Advisers.[4]
He was born inChester County, Pennsylvania, and graduated fromHarvard University 1908 and was awarded theDoctorate of Philosophy in 1913.
