José Joaquín Torres Cadena (born July 15, 1952), also known asJ.J. Torres, is a formerassociation football referee fromColombia.
Torres served as a FIFA referee for several international tournaments, including the1989 FIFA World Youth Championship[1] and the1992 Summer Olympics.[2] He also worked as a referee for the1994 World Cup's South American qualifiers.[3]
Torres is mostly known for supervising four matches in the1994 FIFA World Cup in theUnited States. He officiated two group stage matches: the first one betweenBelgium andMorocco[4] and the second one between theRepublic of Ireland andNorway,[4] as well as the quarter-final match betweenGermany andBulgaria[4] and the semi-final match betweenBrazil andSweden.[4]
