In thisSpanish name, the first or paternal surname is Torres and the second or maternal family name is Cadena.

José Joaquín Torres Cadena (born July 15, 1952), also known asJ.J. Torres, is a formerassociation football referee fromColombia.

Torres served as a FIFA referee for several international tournaments, including the1989 FIFA World Youth Championship^[1] and the1992 Summer Olympics.^[2] He also worked as a referee for the1994 World Cup's South American qualifiers.^[3]

Torres is mostly known for supervising four matches in the1994 FIFA World Cup in theUnited States. He officiated two group stage matches: the first one betweenBelgium andMorocco^[4] and the second one between theRepublic of Ireland andNorway,^[4] as well as the quarter-final match betweenGermany andBulgaria^[4] and the semi-final match betweenBrazil andSweden.^[4]
