José Antonio Salerno Dullan (4 June 1914 – 19 February 1984)[1] was an Argentinefootball player andmanager.
A left winger, Salerno played for Argentinos de Banfield and retired at a young age due to aleg fracture.[2][3]
As a football coach, Salerno started his career as coach of theGimnasia La Plata youth ranks underEmérico Hirsch.[2] He also served as assistant coach inSan Lorenzo de Almagro andRosario Central. He sometimes led Rosario Central due to the fact that the head coach,Mario Fortunato, coachedChacarita Juniors at the same time.[3]
Salerno came to Chile in June 1953 to coachGreen Cross in thetop division.[3][4] In the mid-1956, Salerno was appointed the manager of theChile national team[5] and led them in afriendly againstCzechoslovakia on 26 August 1956 and the1957 South American Championship.[2][6][7][8][9]
Following the Chile national team, Salerno ledO'Higgins from 1958 to 1960[10][11] and Green Cross in 1960, winning theSegunda División.[12][13]
Salerno served assport manager ofDeportes Concepción in the 1960's.[14]
Salerno served as a representative of theAsociación Central de Fútbol de Chile (Central Football Association of Chile).[15]
