José Luis Munuera Montero (born 19 May 1983) is a Spanishfootball referee who officiates inLa Liga. He has been aFIFA referee since 2019, and is ranked as aUEFA second category referee .[2]
Munuera Montero began officiating in theSegunda División B in 2010, theSegunda División in 2013 andLa Liga in 2016.[3] He officiated his first match in La Liga on 22 August 2016 betweenCelta Vigo andLeganés.[4] In 2019, he was put on theFIFA referees list. He officiated his firstUEFA club competition match on 1 August 2019, a meeting between Romanian clubViitorul Constanța and Belgian clubGent in the2019–20 UEFA Europa League second qualifying round.[5] His first senior international match as referee was on 7 October 2020 betweenAndorra andCape Verde.[6]
As part of a referee exchange programme between UEFA andCONMEBOL, Munuera Montero was selected on 21 April 2021 as avideo assistant referee for the2021 Copa América in Argentina and Colombia.[7] He will be joined by four of his compatriots at the tournament, marking the first time a team of European referees were selected to officiate at theCopa América.[8][9] After an incident that he privately owns sports company he has been suspended.
Munuera Montero was born inJaén, and owns several restaurants inCórdoba.[1]
