José Luis Garcés Rivera (born 9 May 1981) is aPanamanianfootballer who currently plays forLiga Panameña de Fútbol sideSan Francisco.[1]
At club level, Garcés plays in the striker position. Nicknamedel Pistolero, he played for clubs inBrazil,[2]Uruguay,[3]Bulgaria,[4] andPortugal[5] before he returned to Panama because he was not being paid in his clubAcadémica de Coimbra.
He later signed a loan deal with Arabian clubAl-Ittifaq but later returned to Panama to play forÁrabe Unido,[6] where he got arrested a couple of times[7] and in April 2011 spent time in jail. He was later released in July 2011 and signed withSan Francisco, making his return to football during theCONCACAF Champions League match againstSeattle Sounders FC.
In July 2012 Garcés was again sentenced to serve time in jail on appeal for the alleged assault in 2011 on a woman who subsequently lost her baby,[8] but in November 2012 he was again released after spending 5 months in prison.[9] In March 2013 he was reportedly targeted by armed men inPuerto Caimito but came out unharmed.[10]
In June 2014, Garcés joinedTauro,[11] who released him in June 2015.[12] He subsequently moved toPlaza Amador.[13]
Garcés made his international debut for thePanama national football team in 2000 in a match againstCanada and has earned a total of 32 caps, scoring 9 goals. He represented his country in 10FIFA World Cup qualification matches[14] and played at the2007[15] and2009 CONCACAF Gold Cups.[16]
His final international was a July2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup match against theUnited States.
