Jonathan TsaoMPP (Chinese:曹志豪[1]; born 1987) is aCanadian politician and the currentmember of Provincial Parliament (MPP) inOntario forDon Valley North. He previously served asTorontocity councillor forWard 33 (Don Valley East) in 2018.[2][3]
Born and raised inNorth York,[4] Tsao holds a bachelor of arts degree fromUniversity of Toronto, and amaster of science degree from theLondon School of Economics.[5][6] A former senior political advisor in the Ontario provincial government,[7] he also served as a director of theYee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care.[8]
Tsao was appointed asToronto city councillor for Ward 33 (Don Valley East) on May 22, 2018,[1][7][9] filling the vacancy arising from the resignation of the incumbent councillorShelley Carroll that April;[10] he was a resident of Ward 33 at the time of his appointment.[11] He did not seek re-election in that October'smunicipal election,[12] and was subsequently named to the board of management for theToronto Zoo in April 2019.[9][13]
Tsao was selected as theOntario Liberal Party's candidate forDon Valley North in October 2020;[5] he came in second behind the incumbentProgressive Conservative (PC) candidateVincent Ke in the2022 provincial election.[14] Tsao ran for the Liberals again in the2025 provincial election, this time defeating Ke (running as an independent candidate) and the PC's Sue Liu to become MPP for Don Valley North.[15]
