Jonathan Aberdein (born 14 February 1998) is a South Africanracing driver.

He previously competed in theFIA Formula 3 European Championship withMotopark.[1] He has also raced in theADAC Formula 4 in both2016 and2017 and won the2016–17 Formula 4 UAE Championship in dominant fashion.

He is the son ofChris Aberdein, who was an Audi and Porsche works driver in South Africa in the 1990s.

Aberdein switched to touring cars for the2019 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters.

2021

In 2021, Aberdein moved to the LMP2 class of theEuropean Le Mans Series, competing alongsideTom Gamble andPhilip Hanson atUnited Autosports.[2] With four podiums, including a win at the season-ending race inPortugal, the trio ended up finishing second in the standings.[3] As well as that, the South African joined the team for the24 Hours of Le Mans together withNico Jamin andManuel Maldonado, though the race would conclude in a retirement due to a crash with the sister United car caused by Maldonado.[4][5]

2022

2022 saw Aberdein team up withEd Jones andOliver Rasmussen to drive forJota Sport in theWorld Endurance Championship.[6] Following a fifth place atSebring, the team would be forced to retire atSpa-Francorchamps.[7] The team bounced back strongly at the24 Hours of Le Mans, finishing third in class and joining the sister car, which took victory, on the podium.[8][9] Aberdein, Jones, and Rasmussen took another third place at the penultimate race inFuji, eventually ending up sixth in the teams' standings.[10]

2023

Aberdein's 2023 season was made up by a full-season effort in theELMS. Competing in the LMP2 class forInter Europol Competition, Aberdein drove alongsideOlli Caldwell andRui Andrade in the team's #43 entry.[11]
