Jonathan "Jon" Ekerold (born 8 October 1946) is aSouth African former professionalmotorcycle racer. He competed in theGrand Prix motorcycle racing world championships from1975 to1983

Born inJohannesburg,South Africa, Ekerold is one of the few racers in the modern era to have won aroad racing world championship as aprivateer without the benefit of a motorcycle manufacturer's support when he defeatedKawasaki factory racing team riderAnton Mang for the1980 350cc Grand Prix road racingworld championship.^[1] Ekerold rode a self-modifiedYamaha TZ350 engine in aBimota chassis during his championship season. He also won theUlster Grand Prix once and finished second at theIsle of Man TT twice.^[2]^[3]
