John Kennedy Fitzgerald, (born 4 December 1968 inToronto) is a Canadian former internationalsoccer player. After retiring he became a businessman andcorporate lawyer.
He played forOntario teamWexford SC from 1987 until 1988, thenToronto Blizzard until 1993. Whilst pursuing his undergraduate degree in Economics at theUniversity of Toronto, he played for theToronto Varsity Blues where he won aCIAU championship.
Fitzgerald a right-winger, played for Canada at the1987 Pan American Games and1987 FIFA World Youth Championship. He made his senior debut forCanada in a February 1988 friendly match againstBermuda, which was in preparation for Canada's 1990 World Cup qualification campaign. He earned a total of 14 senior caps. Fitzgerald also representedCanadian futsal team at the inaugural1989 FIFA Futsal World Championship where he scored Canada's goal against Argentina.[1][2]
His final international game was a May 1990 friendly match againstMexico.
In addition to studying Economics at theUniversity of Toronto, Fitzgerald also earned aBachelors of Law degree from theUniversity of Western Ontario Faculty of Law in 1999. Since graduation, Fitzgerald has practiced corporate and securities law, served asgeneral counsel, business consultant, andexecutive of variousonline gaming andcryptocurrency businesses,[3] and has been aprivate equity investor.[4] Fitzgerald is one of the co-founders ofVirgin Gaming.
Since 2019, Fitzgerald has served as president and chief executive officer of Cryptologic Corp, a Canadian-basedcryptocurrency mining and software development company.[5]
Fitzgerald is also a season ticket holder with theToronto Raptors of theNBA.[6][7]
