John Thomas Duren (born October 30, 1958) is an American former professionalbasketball player. A 6-foot-3-inch (191 cm)point guard fromDunbar High School inWashington, D.C., he playedcollege basketball with his high school teammateCraig Shelton atGeorgetown University from1976 to1980.[1] He was a gold medalist as a member of theUnited Statesbasketball team at the1979 Pan American Games. During his senior year, he was chosen for the1979–80 All-Big East First Team and was theBig East ConferencePlayer of the Year.[2]
Duren was selected with the 19th overall pick in the1980 NBA draft by theUtah Jazz. He played for the Jazz for two seasons before signing as afree agent with theIndiana Pacers[3] for1982–83, his final NBA season. His final professional season was in 1983–84 with theLancaster Lightning of theContinental Basketball Association.
