Joey Lynn King [ 1] (born July 30, 1999) is an American actress. She starred asRamona Quimby in the comedy filmRamona and Beezus (2010) and gained wider recognition for her lead role as a late-blooming teenager in theKissing Booth film series (2018–2021). King received critical acclaim for playingGypsy-Rose Blanchard in the crime drama seriesThe Act (2019), for which she was nominated for aPrimetime Emmy Award and aGolden Globe Award .
King has also appeared in the filmsBattle: Los Angeles (2011),Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011),The Dark Knight Rises (2012),The Conjuring (2013),White House Down (2013),Oz the Great and Powerful (2013),Independence Day: Resurgence (2016), andWish Upon (2017), as well as in theFX black comedy seriesFargo (2014–2015). She has since taken on lead roles in the action filmsBullet Train (2022) andThe Princess (2022), romantic comedyA Family Affair (2024), and performed a voice role inDespicable Me 4 (2024).
King was born inLos Angeles on July 30, 1999.[ 2] [ 3] She has two older sisters, one of whom is actressHunter King . Her mother is ofJewish descent. King has said, "I'm Jewish, but I'm not really, reallyreligious ."[ 4] [ 5]
As a child, she sanga cappella for a talent show at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center[ 6] and performed with the Stage Door Children's Theatre in Agoura.[ 6] King attended Phoenix Ranch School inSimi Valley .[ 7] King began acting professionally at the age of four in a commercial forLife Cereal .[ 6] She has also been in commercials forAT&T ,Kay Jewelers , andEggo .
2006–2016: Beginnings and child acting[ edit ] King made her debut in the 2007 filmReign Over Me . In 2008, she voiced the yellow fur ball Katie in the animated featureHorton Hears a Who! and also appeared inQuarantine . In 2010, she guest-starred in the seriesGhost Whisperer . She was also featured inThe Suite Life of Zack & Cody as Emily Mason in two episodes. Other television appearances includeJericho ,Entourage ,CSI: Crime Scene Investigation ,Medium andLife in Pieces .
King's first lead role wasRamona Quimby in the 2010 filmRamona and Beezus , an adaptation of theBeverly Cleary book series.[ 8] She also released a single for the movie called "Ramona Blue." Her role in the film won her aYoung Artist Award . King was featured inBattle: Los Angeles , where she played a girl named Kirsten. Also in 2011, she co-starred inCrazy, Stupid, Love . She also appeared inTaylor Swift 's "Mean " music video as a young student at the school cafeteria rejected by her peers.[ 9]

2017–present:The Kissing Booth andThe Act [ edit ] In 2018, she starred as Elle Evans inNetflix 's teen romantic comedyThe Kissing Booth .[ 15] She reprised the role in the sequelThe Kissing Booth 2 , released in 2020, and inThe Kissing Booth 3 , which was released on August 11, 2021.[ 16] In 2019, she starred in the true crime anthology television seriesThe Act onHulu . King was cast asGypsy Rose Blanchard , a role which required King to shave her head for the third time in her career.[ 17] [ 18] Her performance inThe Act earned her nominations forEmmy ,Golden Globe ,SAG andCritics' Choice awards. King began a relationship with producer and director Steven Piet in 2019 after they met on the set ofThe Act . They became engaged in February 2022[ 25] and married on September 2, 2023, inMallorca , Spain.[ 26] [ 27]
King signed the "No Hostage Left Behind" letter, an open letter askingUS President Joe Biden to ensure the release of hostages kidnapped byHamas during theOctober 7 attacks .[ 28]
