Joseph Michael Williams (born 8 December 1996) is an English professionalfootballer who plays as amidfielder forEFL Championship clubBristol City.
Williams began his career withEverton, spending loan spells atBarnsley andBolton Wanderers, later playing forWigan Athletic and Bristol City.
Williams was born inLiverpool,Merseyside.[2] He joined local sideEverton at the age of seven, progressing through the age groups to become a first year scholar in June 2013.[3] In November 2014 he appeared as an unused substitute for theUEFA Europa League game againstFC Krasnodar.[2]
In July 2017 he joinedBarnsley on loan.[4] He scored his first goal for the club in a 4–2 win atBurton Albion on 31 October 2017.[5]
On 23 August 2018 he joinedBolton Wanderers on a season long loan.[6][7]
In July 2019 he signed forWigan Athletic.[8][9]
On 20 August 2020, Williams signed forBristol City for £1,200,000 signing a four-year deal.[10][11] On 29 May 2024, Williams signed a new three-year contract extension.[12]
He has represented England atunder-20 youth level.[13]
