Joseph Lafaele Tuipala (born September 13, 1976) is an American former professionalfootball player who was alinebacker in theNational Football League (NFL). He is the nephew of former New England Patriots running backMosi Tatupu, and first cousin of Seattle Seahawks linebackerLofa Tatupu. He played two seasons in the NFL with theJacksonville Jaguars. He was also a member of theNew Orleans Saints andWashington Redskins, including assignments to variousNFL Europe teams.[1]
Born inHonolulu, Hawaii, he is of Samoan descent. Tuipala is the son of Tautofi Tuipala (father) and Maude "Moki" Scanlan (mother), both fromAmerican Samoa. Tuipala attendedSherman E. Burroughs High School inRidgecrest, California. He went on to playcollege football for theSan Diego State Aztecs, and was named Defensive MVP of the1998 Las Vegas Bowl.
