Joachim Loughrey (born 1947) is a formerFine Gael politician fromCounty Donegal inIreland. He was asenator from 1982 to 1989.[1]
Anational school teacher before entering politics,[1] Loughrey stood unsuccessfully as a Fine Gael candidate forDáil Éireann in theDonegal North-East constituency on five occasions: at theby-election in 1976 and at theFebruary 1982,November 1982,1987 and1989 general elections.[2]
After his February 1982 defeat, he was elected to the16th Seanad on theCultural and Educational Panel. He was re-elected in the 1983 and 1987 Seanad elections,[1] but lost his seat in the 1989 elections to the19th Seanad, and was unsuccessful again at the 1993 Seanad elections.[2]
