Jiiddu (also known asJiddu orAf-Jiiddu) is aSomali language spoken by the Jiiddu sub-clan of theDir, aSomali clan inhabiting southernSomalia. It currently has an estimated 34,000 speakers, concentrated in theLower Shabeelle,Bay andMiddle Juba regions.[1]
Typically classified as part of the Digil group oflanguages, Jiiddu has a differentphonology andsentence structure fromSomali. However, it more closely resemblesSomali thanBaiso. "It reportedly some similarities to Konsoid languages and to" andHighland East Cushitic languages spoken in southernEthiopia.[1]
