Ji-Paraná Futebol Clube, commonly referred to asJi-Paraná (Brazilian Portuguese:[ʒipaɾɐˈna]), is aBrazilianfootball club based inJi-Paraná,Rondônia. The club competes in theCampeonato Rondoniense Série A, the top division in the Rondôniastate football league system.
The club is Rondônia's most successful club still in activity.
As of 2022, Ji-Paraná is the fifth-best ranked team from Rondônia inCBF's national club ranking, being placed 170th overall.[2]
On 22 April 1991, Ji-Paraná was founded.[3]
On 18 August 1991, the club played its first official match, againstOperário of Rondônia. TheCampeonato Rondoniense match was played inPimenta Bueno, and ended in a 1-1 draw.[4]
On 18 September 1991, the club won its first match. The club beatColorado of Rondônia 3-1, inCerejeiras.[4]
On 15 December 1991, Ji-Paraná won the Campeonato Rondoniense, its first title. The club beatFerroviário of Rondônia in the final. The competition's top goalscorer was Itamar, of Ji-Paraná.[5]
In 1992, the club disputed theCampeonato Brasileiro Série C for the first time. Ji-Paraná was eliminated in the first stage, after finishing in the group's last position.[6] The club also disputedCopa do Brasil for the first time in that year, and was eliminated in the first stage byGrêmio.[7]
In 1995, Ji-Paraná disputed again the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C. The club was eliminated byAtlético Goianiense in the quarterfinals.[8]
In 1996, Ji-Paraná reached the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C third stage. The club was eliminated byNacional of Amazonas.[9]
In 1997, the club reached the fourth stage of the Série C.Juventus of São Paulo eliminated the club.[10]
In 1999,[11] 2002,[12] 2004[13] and 2005,[14] Ji-Paraná disputed the Série C. In all those seasons the club was eliminated in the first stage.[citation needed]
In 2000, the club reached Copa do Brasil's second stage. It was the club's all-time best performance in the competition. Ji-Paraná was eliminated byBahia in that year.[15]
The club's home matches are usually played atBiancão stadium,[3] which has a maximum capacity of 3,000 people.[16] Ji-Paraná also plays atpt:Biancão, which has a maximum capacity of 5,000 people.[17]
Ji-Paraná is nicknamedJipa, which is asyllabic abbreviation of the club's name.[18] Another club's nickname isGalo da BR, meaningRooster of the BR. BR is the name of a highway[19]
The club's colors are blue, white and red.[3]
Ji-Paraná's mascot is arooster (galo inPortuguese language).[18]
