Jhumar or Jhoomar (also calledGhumbar in theSandalbar area) is a traditionalPunjabi dance in Pakistan, originating from theSandal Bar andChaj Doab regions ofPunjab.[1][2][3].
he word "Jhumar" comes fromJhum/Jhoom, which means to sway in theMultani,Jhangochi, andJangli dialects ofPunjabi. Jhumar is usually performed at wedding ceremonies in Punjab.[4] The dance is also performed in a circle, to the tune of emotional songs.[4]
Jhoomar is the traditional Punjabi folk dance that originates fromSandal Bar andChaj doab regions of Punjab. The dance is also called Jungle-dance ofJhang-Sials ofSial dynasty which has a tribal sounding beat - 16 beats on the drum per cycle - believed to date back toAryan period.[5]
