Jessica Rosenthal (born 28 October 1992) is a German politician of theSocial Democratic Party (SPD) who has been a member of theBundestag since 2021, representing theBonn district.
Rosenthal was born 1992 inHameln. From 2011 to 2012 she served as a volunteer at Care Deutschland-Luxemburg in Bonn.[1] She studied teaching.[2]
Rosenthal joined the SPD, and therefore was automatically enrolled in theYoung Socialists in the SPD (Jusos),[3] in 2013. In January 2021, she was elected chairwoman of Jusos.[4]
Rosenthal was elected to the Bundestag in 2021.[5] In the negotiations to form a so-calledtraffic light coalition of the SPD, theGreen Party and theFree Democrats (FDP) following elections, she was part of her party's delegation in the working group on education policy, co-chaired byAndreas Stoch,Felix Banaszak andJens Brandenburg.[6]
In parliament, Rosenthal has since been serving on the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment.[7] Within her own parliamentary group, she is part of a working group on migration and integration.[8]
Since January 2023, Rosenthal has been serving on an internal SPD commission on tax reform, co-chaired bySaskia Esken andLars Klingbeil.[9]
In 2023, Rosenthal announced that she would not run again as chairwoman of the Jusos and instead focus on her pregnancy.[10]
Amid the2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Rosenthal opposed the Scholz government's effort to change Germany’s constitution to allow for a credit-based special defense fund of 100 billion euros ($107.35 billion).[14]
