Jeremy Roger HansenCD FRCGS (born January 27, 1976) is aCanadian astronaut, fighter pilot, physicist and formeraquanaut. He was selected to join theCanadian Space Agency in the2009 CSA selection along withDavid Saint-Jacques. Prior to his selection as one of Canada's astronauts, Hansen was aRoyal Canadian Air Forcecaptain, piloting theCF-18 fighter jet atCFB Cold Lake, Alberta. He has since been promoted to the rank ofcolonel.
Hansen was selected as a mission specialist on theArtemis II flight, which intends to circle the Moon in spring 2026. If successful, he will be the first non-American astronaut to travel beyond low Earth orbit.
Hansen was born on January 27, 1976, inLondon, Ontario, and raised on a farm nearAilsa Craig, until moving toIngersoll for his high school education.
After graduating fromIngersoll District Collegiate Institute inIngersoll, Ontario, Hansen attended theRoyal Military College inKingston, Ontario, where he completed aBachelor of Science (Honours) degree inspace science in 1999 withFirst Class Honours.
Hansen later completed aMaster of Science degree inphysics at the Royal Military College in 2000, with a research focus on wide field of view satellite tracking.[1]
In 2013, Hansen served as cavenaut into theESA CAVES training inSardinia, alongsideSatoshi Furukawa,Michael Barratt,Jack Fisher,Aleksei Ovchinin andPaolo Nespoli.[2]
On June 10, 2014, NASA announced that Hansen would serve as anaquanaut aboard theAquariusunderwater laboratory during theNEEMO 19 undersea exploration mission, which began on September 7, 2014, and lasted seven days.[3][4]

On April 3, 2023, he was announced as part of the upcomingArtemis II mission to be the first Canadian to travel to the Moon.[5]
Hansen is married to Catherine Hansen and has three children.[1]
