TheJeep Recon is abattery electricmid-size SUV[2] produced byJeep in 2025. Revealed in a set of images in September 2022 alongside two other Jeep models, it is anoff-road-oriented SUV that is heavily inspired by theWrangler, and will be sold alongside it.[3] The Recon name was previously used for a variant of the Wrangler.[4]

The Jeep Recon is based on theSTLA Large platform, with fullyindependent suspension.[5] The vehicle will have removable doors, retractable roof, electroniclocking differentials,Selec-Terrain traction management functions, skid plates, tow hooks, off-road-rated tires, and underbody protection.[6] It will be produced in North America and will be available for the global market.[2][3]

Production and release

[edit]

The Jeep Recon is slated for production at theToluca Car Assembly plant inToluca, Mexico, with manufacturing expected to commence in 2025. The vehicle is anticipated to arrive in U.S. dealerships in late 2025.[7]

Design and features

[edit]

The exterior uses an illuminated seven-slot grille, Wrangler-like square taillights protruding from the body, chunky bumpers with prominent tow hooks, and a swing-out tailgate with a standard full-size spare mounted to it. As with the Wrangler, the doors are removable. It comes standard with a dual-pane power-opening sunroof, but the Sky One-Touch Power Top is available. The Recon uses a frame-like design for the tiered center console and prominent grab handles with exposed rivets. A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and 14.5-inch central touchscreen are standard, the latter being Jeep's largest ever, and while all the climate controls are in the screen, physical volume and tuning knobs are also standard.[8]

Moab trim

[edit]

The Moab trim uses most design elements used by the regular Recon. However it comes with wider fender flares, available rock rails, and Jeep badges with topographical etching.[8]

Moab-exclusive features

[edit]

The Moab trim has an electronic locking differential at the rear with 15:1 final drive ratio. The front differential is still an open differential. The locker is activated by a switch on the dashboard.[8] Jeep'sSelec-Terrain management system has aRock mode exclusive to the Moab.[9]

Powertrain

[edit]

The Recon uses adual-motor, all-wheel-drive layout producing 650 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque. A 100 kWh battery and a rearlocking differential comes standard.[10] All trims besides the Moab get a range of 250 miles, the Moab gets a range of 230 miles.[11] The battery of the Recon usesnickel manganese cobalt chemistry. It also uses a 400-volt architecture.[12]
