Jean Claude MontyCC (born 26 June 1947) is a Canadian business executive andphilanthropist.[1] He was theCEO ofNortel Networks from 1993 to 1997 and thechairman and CEO ofBCE from 1997 to 2002.[2][3] He is credited with having successfully ledBCE from a traditional phone company into a multifacetedinternet and media provider in the early 2000s.[4]
Monty was born and raised inMontreal in 1947.[5]
He studied atCollege Sainte-Marie of Montreal and graduated with aBachelor of Arts, completed a Master of Arts in Economics from theUniversity of Western Ontario and completed aMaster of Business Administration from theChicago Booth School of Business.[6]
Monty began his career atBell Canada in 1974 and held multiple positions in the company.[7] In 1993, he became President andCEO ofNortel Networks.[8] He retired fromBCE in 2002, after having served as Chairman and CEO.
Monty has served on various corporate boards includingBombardier,Alcatel Lucent andFiera Capital.[9]
In 1994, Monty was awarded theOrder of Canada for his leadership in the telecommunications industry and his involvement in the community.[10]
Monty is married to Jocelyne Monty.[11]
