Jean Hotteterre (1677–1720) was a French composer and musician of theHotteterre family.^[1]

Hotteterre worked at the family workshop on theRue de Harlay,Paris until his death at the court ofLouis XIV of France. He and his brothersJacques-Martin and Nicolas made many enhancements to theoboe, creating an "indoor" version similar to theshawm.^[2]
