Jean-Claude Malgoire (25 November 1940 – 14 April 2018) was a French oboist and later conductor.

Early life

Malgoire was born on 25 November 1940 inAvignon, France.[1][2][3] His mother was born in Italy.[1]

Malgoire graduated from theParis Conservatory.[1][4]

Career

Malgoire began his career as anoboist.[2] He played thecor anglais for theOrchestre de Paris, under the direction of conductorCharles Munch.[2] Over the course of his career, he played for conductorsHerbert von Karajan,Georg Solti andSeiji Ozawa.[3] In 1971, he played the cor anglais in Ravel'sPiano Concerto alongside pianistSamson François, conducted byAndré Cluytens.[2] He also played the cor anglais inRichard Wagner'sTristan und Isolde.[2]

Malgoire foundedLa Grande Écurie et la Chambre du Roy, a period-instrumentBaroque music ensemble, in 1966.[1] He played the works ofJean-Baptiste Lully,Marc-Antoine Charpentier,André Campra,[1] andJean-Philippe Rameau. He also founded theFlorilegium Musicum de Paris,[5] amedieval music group.[2] In 1972, he joinedEnsemble 2e2m founded byPaul Méfano.[2] He was the artistic director of theAtelier lyrique inTourcoing from 1981 to 2018.[4]

Malgoire was awarded theVictoires de la Musique in 1992.[4]

Death

Malgoire died on 14 April 2018 in14th arrondissement of Paris.[1][2][3]
