Jaz Beer is apilsner-typericebeer, the first and only brand brewed inMalaysia.[1] It is produced usingrice (rather than the usualbarley), importedmalt, importedhops, and Germancultivated yeast. Due to Malaysianlicensing laws, the product sale is limited to non-Muslims atRefreshment Outlets, such ascoffee shops, restaurants andfood courts; ornight entertainment outlets, aspubs, karaoke, clubs,Beer gardens and late-opening restaurants.

Unlike many developed countries, in Malaysia the majority of alcohol consumption occurs on premises. The 60% of the population that isMalay andMuslim is reputed not to drink, as opposed to theIndian andChinese minorities.[2] The latter has been continuously targeted by Jaz advertising, with much of their marketing material published in Chinese[citation needed] and the selection of Ethnic Chinese celebrities, asGillian Chung.[3]
