Jayden Dalke (born June 8, 1996) is a Canadian professionalfootballdefensive back for theSaskatchewan Roughriders of theCanadian Football League (CFL). He playedU Sports football atAlberta.
Dalke playedhigh school football at Leduc Composite High School inLeduc, Alberta.[1][2] He was not recruited by any university to play football. He then spent time in work camps atFort McMurray. In 2015, Dalke started playing for theEdmonton Wildcats of theCanadian Junior Football League, and played for them for four years.[3]
On April 24, 2024, Dalke was awarded the Leduc Achievement Award at a Leduc city council meeting.[4]
Dalke joined theAlberta Golden Bears in 2019.[1] He played in nine games for the Golden Bears that year, recording 56 tackles, nine pass breakups, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.[5] Dalke was named a first-team All-Canadian for the 2019 season.[3] The2020 U Sports football season was cancelled due to theCOVID-19 pandemic.[1] He appeared in six games during the 2021 season, totaling 37 tackles and one pass breakup, earning second-team All-Canadian honors.[5][3]
Dalke was selected by theSaskatchewan Roughriders of theCanadian Football League (CFL) in the sixth round, with the 54th overall pick, of the2022 CFL draft.[6][7] He officially signed with the team on May 9, 2022.[8] He dressed for all 18 games during his rookie season, recording 15 defensive tackles, 11 special teams tackles and two pass breakups.[1] Dalke started 14 games during the 2023, accumulating 41 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, one interception, two pass breakups and two forced fumbles.[1] He was placed on injured reserve twice during the season.[9][10] He was named toPro Football Focus' CFL Honour Roll for Week 7 as a special teams selection.[11][12] In Week 18, Dalke was fined by the CFL for a hit onHamilton Tiger-Cats receiverKiondré Smith.[13]
