Jason Schellenger "Jay" Venuto (born February 5, 1958) is a formerAmerican footballquarterback who played in theNational Football League for theBaltimore Colts and theNew York Jets, and in theUnited States Football League for theBirmingham Stallions.
Born inSalem, New Jersey, on February 5, 1958, he is the son ofSam Venuto, who played in the NFL for theWashington Redskins.[1]
He played prep football atSalem High School and played collegiately for theWake Forest Demon Deacons football team. Leading the team to a 9–3 record and a bowl berth, Venuto was named as the 1979Atlantic Coast Conference football player of the year, earning the choice from 60% of the 121 votes cast.[2] He was inducted into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame and was recognized as a 2013Atlantic Coast Conference Legend.[3]
