Ataka (安宅) was ariver gunboat of theImperial Japanese Navy that operated on theYangtze River in China during the 1930s, and during theSecond Sino-Japanese War.
On 20 May 1933Ataka was incorporated into the3rd Fleet, as flagship of the 11th GunboatSentai. She was supplanted by theYaeyama as flagship in 1937.
Based in Shanghai during theSecond Sino-Japanese War, Ataka was transferred to theRepublic of China Navy after the war. She defected to thePeople's Liberation Army Navy in 1949, and was sunk inWuhu by Nationalist aircraft on 23 September the same year.[1]
