Jannata (Arabic:جناتا) is a municipality inSouthern Lebanon, located in theTyre District,Governorate of South Lebanon.
According toE. H. Palmer, the name comes fromJennat, garden.[1]
In 1875,Victor Guérin found the village, (which he calledDjennateh), to have 60Metawileh inhabitants.[2] He further noted: "The village contains a number of ruined houses. A littlemosque is partly built ofancient materials."[3]
In 1881, thePEF'sSurvey of Western Palestine (SWP) described it: "A small village of stone and mud, containing about 100 Moslems. […] It lies low, on arable land. The water is supplied by twowells in the village."[4]
In 2014Muslims made up 99.24% of registered voters in Jannata. 97.70% of the voters wereShiite Muslims.[5]
