Jamyang Tsering Namgyal (born 4 August 1985), also known by his initialsJTN, is an Indian politician who served as a Member of Parliament inLok Sabha forLadakh, India's largest parliamentary seat geographically. Namgyal was elected, on 9 November 2018, to be the youngest[2] and 8th Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) ofLadakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh.[3] He belongs to theBharatiya Janata Party (BJP).[4]
Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, popularly known to people as JTN, was born in Matho village in theLeh District ofJammu and Kashmir,India (present day inLadakh, India) on 4 August 1985 to Stanzin Dorjey and Ishey Putit. He passed his 12th examinations fromCentral Institute of Buddhist Studies, Leh. Later he completed his graduation fromUniversity of Jammu and he completed his post graduation in MA in English Literature fromIndra Gandhi National Open University. He practicesBuddhism.
Prior to joining politics, he served All Ladakh Student Association, Jammu, in various capacities and as President from 2011 to 2012.[5] After joining politics as member of BJP, Leh, he served as Private Secretary to theMember of Parliament from LadakhThupstan Chhewang. He contested the election ofLadakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh in 2015 fromMartselang Constituency. He won with record margin[6] to be elected as Councillor inLadakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh. Later after the resignation of Dorjay Motup from the post of Chief Executive Councillor, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal was elected as 8th Chief Executive Councillor to theLadakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh.
BJP had fielded JTN from Ladakh parliamentary constituency on 29 March 2019[7] in the 2019 Elections to the Lok Sabha or House of the People of Indian Parliament, the voting for which took place on 6 May 2019 and the counting was on 23 May 2019. He was elected into the17th Lok Sabha, representing Ladakh constituency.
In theLok Sabha, he lent his support to the bill ensuringre-designation of Ladakh as aUnion Territory of India,[8][9][10][11][12][13] andthe revocation of special status lent to Jammu and Kashmir by apresidential order.[14][15] For this, he was praised by the BJP leader and prime ministerNarendra Modi.[16]
