James Alexander Lovat-Fraser (16 March 1868 – 18 March 1938)[1] was a BritishLabour Party and thenNational Labour politician. He sat in theHouse of Commons from 1929 to 1938.
He unsuccessfully contestedLlandaff and Barry at the1922 general election,[2]andBristol Central at the1924 general election.[3]He was elected at the1929 general election as theMember of Parliament (MP) for theLichfield division ofStaffordshire.[4]When the Labour Party split in 1931 over the budget, Lovat-Fraser was one of the minority of Labour MPs who supported the Prime MinisterRamsay MacDonald in forming aNational Government withConservative Party support.[5]He was re-elected as a National Labour candidate in1931[6]and in1935[7]and held the seat until his death in March 1938, aged 70.[1]
