James "J. D." DePree, also known asJim DePree, (March 14, 1879 – July 1, 1972) was anAmerican football player and coach of football andbaseball.[1] He was the fifthhead coach for theUniversity of TennesseeVolunteers football team, coaching the 1905 and 1906 seasons and compiling a record of 4–11–3. While at Tennessee, he started the school's first basketball team and coached the baseball team in 1906.
Depree married Fannie Wilson ofKnoxville, Tennessee, who bore his three sons. He was born inHolland, Michigan in 1879 and died inSarasota, Florida in 1972.
DePree was a letterman in football from theUniversity of Michigan, where played fullback.
