
James Bigwood (1839 – 6 December 1919) was an English manufacturer andConservativepolitician.
Bigwood was born atBristol.[1] He was educated atCotham, Bristol and atSt John's College, Cambridge (BA. 1853, MA. 1866).[2] He became a partner in the firm of Champion & Co. mustard and vinegar manufacturers located in Finsbury.[3] He was a member of theSociety of Chemical Industry and a strong proponent of food product purity.[4] Bigwood married Marian Webb ofTorquay in 1862.[citation needed]
In the1885 general election, Bigwood was electedmember of parliament forFinsbury East with a lead of 20 votes but lost the seat against the trend in the1886 general election by 61 votes.[5]
He was elected MP forBrentford in aby election in 1886 and held it until the1906 general election.[6] On 17 January 1906 he was appointed adeputy lieutenant ofMiddlesex.[7]
Bigwood lived atTwickenham and died at the age of 80 on 6 December 1919.[citation needed]
