James A. Aiken Jr. (born 1967)[1] is a retiredUnited States Navyrear admiral andsurface warfare officer who last served as the 11th commander of theUnited States Naval Forces Southern Command andUnited States Fourth Fleet from 2021 to 2024.[2] He previously served as the commander ofCarrier Strike Group 3 from 2020 to 2021,[3] with command tours as commodore ofDestroyer Squadron 60 from 2013 to 2015, and commanding officer of theUSS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) from 2007 to 2008.[4][5] He was promoted to his present rank on April 1, 2021.[6]

A native ofPittsburgh, Aiken earned his commission via theNROTC Program atPennsylvania State University with a bachelor's degree in political science. He also earned a master's degree in strategic studies from theUnited States Naval War College.[7]
