Jake Herbert (born March 6, 1985) is an Americanfolkstyle andfreestylewrestler. Herbert won the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials at 84 kg FS and competed in the2012 Olympics.[1]

High school

Born inPittsburgh, Herbert attendedNorth Allegheny High School inWexford, Pennsylvania, where he was aPIAA class AAA state champion and four-time state placer.[2][3]

College

Herbert was a two-timeNCAA champion, three-timeBig Ten Conference champion, and four-time NCAAAll-American. He went 149-4 while atNorthwestern University.[4][5] He won the 2009Dan Hodge Trophy awarded to the best college wrestler in the nation[3] and the 2009Big Ten Athlete of the Year award.

International

Herbert won a silver medal at the2009 World Wrestling Championships at84kg FS competed at the2010 World Wrestling Championships at84kg FS.[6]

Herbert defeatedTravis Paulson 2 to 1 at the finals of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials.[7]

Herbert currently works withAndy Hrovat, who represented the United States at 84 kg FS in the2008 Olympics.[8]

Herbert came very close to obtaining a medal in the2012 Olympics, but missed the opportunity due to a controversial referee's call.[9]

Personal life

He is the cousin of singerJosh Herbert. Jake has two daughters and a wife[10]
