Jakeb Nolan Burt (born August 25, 1996) is a Canadian professionalfootballtight end. He was draftedfirst overall in the2021 CFL Draft by theHamilton Tiger-Cats. He playedcollege football for theBoston College Eagles from 2015 to 2019.[1]
Burt was not selected in the2020 NFL draft, but he signed as anundrafted free agent with theNew England Patriots of theNational Football League to a three-year contract.[2] He spent the entire season on the practice squad and was not re-signed for the following year.[3][4]
Burt was a late addition to be qualified for theCFL Draft in 2021 after he provided documentation proving hisNational status.[5] His draft value rapidly rose to the point that he was selected with thefirst overall pick in the2021 CFL Draft by theHamilton Tiger-Cats.[6] He signed his rookie contract on the same day of the draft which was registered with the league on May 5, 2021.[7][8] However, he spent the entire2021 season on the injured list.[8]
Burt made his professional debut in the season opening game of2022 on June 11, against theSaskatchewan Roughriders in his city of birth,Regina.[9] In that game, he recorded two receptions for ten yards.[9] On May 10, 2023, Burt was released by the Tiger-Cats.
Burt was born inRegina,Saskatchewan, to parents Scott and Dawn Burt.[1] Burt and his family moved toLynnfield,Massachusetts, when he was four years old and he grew up in theBoston area.[7]
