Jaideep Sahni (born 1968) is an Indianscreenwriter,songwriter and creative producer, who wrote the screenplays for films likeChak De! India,Khosla Ka Ghosla,Company,Bunty Aur Babli,Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year andShuddh Desi Romance.
He won theFilmfare Award for Best Dialogue as well asFilmfare Award for Best Story forCompany (2002), and theFilmfare Award for Best Screenplay forKhosla Ka Ghosla (2006). He also won the IIFA award 2008 for best story, forChak De! India .
Born and brought up inNew Delhi,[1] Jaideep Sahni studied at theGuru Nanak Dev Engineering College,Bidar. He started working as a computer engineer,[2] and has worked forNIIT.
He became a lyricist after jam sessions withPalash Sen, and after discovering the screenplay for the filmGandhi in a New Delhi bookshop, he started writing screenplays, at age 27.[1] He wrote both the screenplay and the lyrics forJungle (2000), which was directed byRam Gopal Verma. The second film written by Sahni and directed by Verma,Company (2002), was nominated for elevenFilmfare Awards and won seven of them. Sahni then worked withDibakar Banerjee inKhosla Ka Ghosla. Since then he continues to work forYash Raj Films, where he started as a screenwriter for the filmBunty Aur Babli directed byShaad Ali which was a box office success and a major breakthrough inAbhishek Bachchan's career.
He then wrote the 2007 filmChak De! India, directed byShimit Amin, who was also an assistant to Ram Gopal Varma before joining Yashraj films. The movie starredShah Rukh Khan as the coach of Indian hockey team, and was loosely based on the real-life story ofMaharaj Krishan Kaushik.[3] He also wrote the screenplay forAaja Nachle, which was directed byAnil Mehta and which was also released in 2007.Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year, the third film of Shimit Amin, was released in 2009.
