"Jaya Jaya Mahārāṣṭra Mājhā" (Marathi:जय जय महाराष्ट्र माझा,pronounced[dʑəjdʑəjməɦaːˈɾaːʂʈɾəˈmaː(d)zʱaː];lit. 'Victory to My Maharashtra') is the official state song of Maharashtra.[1] It is a Marathi patriotic song praising theIndian state ofMaharashtra. The original lyrics of the song were written byRaja Badhe. The music was composed byShrinivas Khale and sung by folk singer Krishnarao Sable, popularly known asShahir Sable.[2]The song is widely used and played in the official functions ofMaharashtra Government .[2]

The song with alterations in music and lyrics was released in 2004 in the albumDilse Maratha Hai by singer and composerAvdhoot Gupte. The album was released by former president ofShiv SenaUddhav Thackeray at the Thackeray residence "Matoshri",Bandra, in Mumbai.[6] The video featured actorsUrmila Matondkar andVivek Oberoi. Gupte's song however is a mix ofHindi and Marathi. The music is inspired from Bryan Adam's chartbuster songSummer of '69.[citation needed] The new version faced some criticism for the use of swear words considered inappropriate in the song. In defense Gupte said that they were added "to make it peppy".[7]
