Jade Alexandra Botterill (born December 1990)[1] is a BritishLabour Party politician who has been theMember of Parliament forOssett and Denby Dale since2024.[2] She serves as aParliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to theHome Office.[3]
Botterill grew up inWakefield; her mother worked as a carer and her father as a prison officer.[4] She did not attend university and began working at the localRiver Island store aged 16, having worked since age 13.[5][6]
She also worked as the community development officer for local rugby teamWakefield Trinity where she campaigned to improve local children's health and wellbeing.[4]
From 2013 to 2019, Botterill worked as parliamentary assistant and head of office toYvette Cooper MP, whom she met while campaigning to save aSure Start centre in Cooper'sNormanton, Pontefract and Castleford constituency.[6] She also worked as a corporate affairs adviser forYorkshire Water, and later public affairs manager for38 Degrees.[7] Prior to her election, she worked forPortland Communications.[8]
Botterill was selected as theLabourprospective parliamentary candidate for theOssett and Denby Dale constituency in September 2023.[9]
Shortly after her election, she was appointed as theparliamentary private secretary to theHome Office.[3] In her maiden speech, she said one of her focuses as a Member of Parliament would be campaigning for opportunities for young people in her constituency.[10]
In November 2024, Botterill voted in favour of theTerminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which proposes to legaliseassisted suicide.[11] Botterill has campaigned and voted for more regulation of the water industry.[12]
In theSeptember 2025 cabinet reshuffle Botterill was appointed to the ministerial position ofassistant government whip.[13]
