Jacques de Mahieu, whose real name wasJacques Girault, (31 October 1915 – 4 October 1990) was aFrench Argentineanthropologist andPeronist.He wrote several books onesoterism, which he mixed with anthropological theories inspired byscientific racism.[1]

He joined theAction Française at a young age. Acollaborationist inVichy France and member of theWaffen-SS, he fled toArgentina after the liberation of France from theNazis. He became aPeronist ideologue in the 1950s, mentor to a Roman Catholic nationalist youth group in the 1960s, and later in life, head of the Argentine chapter of Spanishneo-Nazi groupCEDADE.

Early life and World War II

He was born inMarseille, France. As a young man he was influenced by authors such asGeorges Sorel,Charles Maurras, andAlexis Carrel[2] and joined theAction Française.[3]

During World War II, he was a member of the33rd Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS Charlemagne.[4][5]

After theliberation of France, he was one of the first to flee toJuan Perón's Argentina through theratlines organized by Perón. Anaturalized Argentine,[6] he became an ideologue of thePeronist movement, before becoming a mentor to a Roman Catholic nationalist youth group in the 1960s.[7]

Academic career

De Mahieu studied at the Universities ofMendoza andBuenos Aires; he graduated inphilosophy, asdoctor Honoris Causa of Medicine, doctor ineconomic sciences, and doctor inpolitical science.[2]

He became a professor of anthropological studies in Buenos Aires as the deputy rector[8] of the Institute of Human Studies (from 1953 to 1955 and again from 1972 to 1976). He also taughteconomy,ethnography andFrench at theNational University of Cuyo[3] (1948–1955), and at theUniversidad del Salvador (1964–1965).[2]

He also was a member of theAcademia Argentina de Sociología (1952–1955), and a lecturer with theArmed Forces of the Argentine Republic (1961–1971).[2]

Later life and death

De Mahieu remained in Argentina in his later years.Uki Goñi claims that he was photographed withCarlos Menem during the latter's 1989 presidential campaign.[9] De Mahieu headed the Argentine chapter of the Spanishneo-Nazi group,CEDADE, until his death in Buenos Aires, in 1990.

De Mahieu wrote onpre-Columbian America andesoteric Nazism. He traveled toParaguay foranthropological studies, and claimed theGuayaki tribeswere descendants of the Vikings. He allegedly travelled toBrazil in 1974, where he visited theSete Cidades park inPiauí and considered it a Viking establishment.[10]His books on theKnights Templar allege they settled inMexico before Columbus.

His books were translated from French to German byWilfred von Oven, formerly deputy to the Nazi propagandistJoseph Goebbels.[11]

Economics and politics

Mahieu wrote a book titledThe Communal Economy (1964), which was inspired by a social and economic project developed inMendoza, Argentina. The project ended during theRevolución Libertadora regime, which toppledJuan Perón's government in 1955.[12]
