Giacomo "Jack"Della Maddalena (born 10 September 1996), also known by his initialsJDM, is an Australian professionalmixed martial artist. He currently competes in theWelterweight division of theUltimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he is the formerUFC Welterweight Champion. As of 18 November 2025, he is #1 in theUFC welterweight rankings and as of November 25, 2025, he is #11 in theUFC men's pound-for-pound rankings.[3]
Giacomo Della Maddalena[4] was born on 10 September 1996[5] inPerth,Western Australia, into a family ofAustralian andItalian descent as one of his grandfathers is fromSardinia.[6] He attendedAquinas College in Perth andSt. Kevin's College inMelbourne, Victoria.[7] Della Maddalena is an avid supporter of theAustralian national rugby union team (Wallabies) and theFremantle Dockers in theAustralian Football League.[8]
He started playingrugby at the age of eight and represented his school fromyear six toyear twelve. Due to the influence of his older brother Josh, Della Maddalena joined a boxing gym at the age of fourteen, using it to improve his fitness for the rugby season. He fell in love with the sport, and after his rugby career ended, he transitioned into full-time MMA training.[9][10][11][12]
He made his professional debut on 12 March 2016 against Aldin Bates, losing the contest viaTKO in the 3rd round. He went on to lose his next fight against Darcy Vendy viasubmission in the first round, before accumulating a nine-fight winning streak whilst securing the Eternal Welterweight Championship and defending it four times.[9]
Della Maddalena was invited to face Congolese mixed martial artist Ange Loosa on 14 September 2021 atDana White's Contender Series 39, where he won the bout via unanimous decision and secured a UFC contract.[13]
Della Maddalena was scheduled to make his UFC debut againstThe Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3 middleweight winnerWarlley Alves on 22 January 2022 atUFC 270.[14] However, Alves pulled out in early January due to undisclosed reasons and he was replaced by promotional newcomer Pete Rodriguez.[15][16] Della Maddalena won the bout via TKO in the first round.[17]
Della Maddalena facedRamazan Emeev on 11 June 2022 atUFC 275.[18] He won the fight via TKO in round one.[19] This win earned him thePerformance of the Night award.[20]
Della Maddalena facedDanny Roberts on 19 November 2022 atUFC Fight Night: Nzechukwu vs. Cuțelaba.[21] He won the fight via technical knockout in round one.[22] With this win, Della Maddalena earned his second straightPerformance of the Night bonus.[23]
Della Maddalena facedRandy Brown on 12 February 2023 atUFC 284.[24] He won the bout via first round submission.[25] The win earned him thePerformance of the Night award.[26]
Della Maddalena was scheduled to faceSean Brady on 8 July 2023 atUFC 290.[27] However, on 30 June, Brady withdrew from the bout due to an undisclosed injury.[28] He was replaced by promotional newcomer Josiah Harrell.[29] The day before the event on 7 July, Harrell was pulled from the fight due to being diagnosed withMoyamoya disease during his pre-fight medical screening and the bout was scrapped.[30]
Della Maddalena faced promotional newcomer Bassil Hafez on 15 July 2023 atUFC Fight Night: Holm vs. Bueno Silva.[31] He won the bout via split decision.[32] Both fighters earned theFight of the Night bonus.[33]
Della Maddalena facedKevin Holland on 16 September 2023 atUFC Fight Night 227.[34] He won the bout by split decision.[35] 16 out of 16 media scorecards scored it for Della Maddalena.[36]
Della Maddalena facedGilbert Burns on 9 March 2024 atUFC 299.[37] He won the fight by technical knockout in the third round.[38] This fight earned him anotherPerformance of the Night award.[39]
Della Maddalena was scheduled to face formerUFC Welterweight ChampionLeon Edwards in the main event on 22 March 2025 atUFC Fight Night 255.[40] However, he was pulled from that fight in order to compete againstBelal Muhammad for theUFC Welterweight Championship on 10 May 2025 atUFC 315.[41] Della Maddalena won the bout and the championship via unanimous decision.[42][43] This fight earned him anotherFight of the Night award.[44]
On 28 August 2025, it was announced that Della Maddalena would face formerUFC Lightweight ChampionIslam Makhachev, who vacated the lightweight title atUFC 317, on 15 November 2025 atUFC 322.[45] Della Maddalena lost the championship by unanimous decision.[46]
