Jack Cichy (born May 5, 1996) is an American former professionalfootball linebacker . He playedcollege football atWisconsin . He was selected by theTampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round of the2018 NFL draft .
Cichy's father, Steve, played football forNotre Dame ,[ 1] and his uncleJoe Cichy is an inductee of theCollege Football Hall of Fame .[ 2]
Playing forWisconsin , Cichy recorded three consecutivesacks in the2015 Holiday Bowl , a sequence that gained much notoriety.[ 3] He was also named the bowl's defensive MVP.[ 4]
Professional career [ edit ] Tampa Bay Buccaneers (first stint)[ edit ] Cichy was drafted by theTampa Bay Buccaneers in sixth round with the 202nd overall pick in the2018 NFL draft .[ 5] The Buccaneers acquired the pick used to select Cichy by tradingJ. J. Wilcox to thePittsburgh Steelers .[ 6] He played in six games before suffering atorn ACL in Week 7, and was subsequently placed oninjured reserve on October 22, 2018.[ 7]
In 2019, Cichy played in four games before injuring his elbow in Week 4. He missed the next four weeks and was placed on injured reserve on October 30, 2019.[ 8]
On October 13, 2020, Cichy was placed on injured reserve after sustaining a hamstring injury in Week 5.[ 9] He was activated on November 28, 2020.[ 10] He was waived on December 2, 2020.[ 11]
New England Patriots [ edit ] On December 3, 2020, Cichy was claimed off waivers by theNew England Patriots .[ 12] He was waived with a failed physical designation on December 9, 2020,[ 13] [ 14] and re-signed to thepractice squad two days later.[ 15]
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (second stint)[ edit ] On January 2, 2021, Cichy was signed by the Buccaneers off the Patriots practice squad.[ 16] On January 19, 2021, Cichy was placed on injured reserve.[ 17] Cichy earned aSuper Bowl championship when the Buccaneers wonSuper Bowl LV .[ 18] [ 19]
After being in free agency for the entirety of the 2021 season, he announced his retirement on February 22, 2022.[ 20]
Cichy joined theUniversity of Wisconsin staff as an offensive assistant in 2022 after volunteering during 2021.[ 21]
