"Jače manijače" (transl. Harder, You Maniac) is a song by Croatianfunk singerDino Dvornik. The single also contains aninstrumental version of the song. "Jače manijače" later became a commercial success after being released in July 1990 on 12-inch vinyl byJugoton.[1]
Dvornik met theMontenegrin musicianRambo Amadeus during recording of the song "Glupi Hit (Stupid hit)" from the albumHoćemo gusle in 1989.[2] As the result of that friendship, Amadeus wrote the lyrics for the song.[3]
The song is in the style offunk anddance music that was in development in theformer Yugoslavia.[3] It was written inD major with a tempo of 120 BPM.[4]
The video was filmed inZagreb and its surrounding areas. It was officially premiered on the third channel ofHTV in the TV showDJ Is So Hot.[5] The video was directed by Dinko Cepak and Tomislav Hleb. It was the first Croatian music video to be aired onMTV.[citation needed]
The Serbian band Zemlja gruva covered this song with permission from Dvornik's wife Danijela.[6] Their version is firstly performed in 2011[7] and 2 years later recorded studio version.[8]
I already had a recorded piece of "Maniac", but it was an alternative, practically no one even heard it. When Dino started working on the same topic, I combined some text for him over the phone. He had to hand over the material the next day, and we finished that text in 20 minutes in dialogue. At that time, they talked on landlines, so it was more pleasant to hold the handset for 20 minutes than today with a mobile phone, when the radiation of the phone is quite deconcentrated. My "Maniac" was worthless, and Dino's was great!
