János Harmatta (2 October 1917 – 24 July 2004) was aHungarianlinguist. He deciphered theParthianostraca andpapyri ofDura-Europos and was the first to decipher a major Bactrian inscription.[1]
He taught as a professor at theHungarian Academy of Sciences.
