Iván Ania Cadavieco (born 24 October 1977) is a Spanish former professionalfootballer who played mainly as aleft winger, currentlymanager ofSegunda División clubCórdoba.

He spent most of his career withReal Oviedo, totalling 201 appearances and scoring 16 goals. InLa Liga, where he also representedTenerife andCádiz, he played 193 games and scored 15 times.[2]

Ania started working as a coach in 2011.

Playing career

Born inOviedo,Asturias, Ania was a youth product of his hometown clubReal Oviedo. After starting out as a senior withthe reserves, he made his first-team – andLa Liga – debut on 11 June 1995, coming on as a latesubstitute for scorerOli in a 1–0 home win againstSporting de Gijón.[3][2]

Ania scored his first professional goal on 8 November 1995, equalising an eventual 4–1 home victory overCA Osasuna in thesecond round of theCopa del Rey.[4] He was definitely promoted to the main squad ahead of the1997–98 season,[2] previously netting for the first time in league on 12 May 1996 in the 4–0 away defeat ofDeportivo de La Coruña.[5]

Ania scored a career-best five goals in the2000–01 campaign, but Oviedo were relegated as third-bottom.[2] On 17 September 2001, he signed a four-year contract withCD Tenerife in the top division, for a fee of 400 millionpesetas.[6] He suffered another relegation in hisfirst year,[2] and spent the first half of2003–04 unemployed before joiningRayo Vallecano on loan.[7]

On 30 June 2005, following a one-year spell at fellow second-divisionGimnàstic de Tarragona, Ania moved toCádiz CF in a return to the top flight,[8] but featured rarely as theywent down.[2] He joinedLorca Deportiva CF in summer 2006, alsodropping down a level while only making five starts in the second tier.[9]

In October 2008, after more than a year without a club, Ania signed forTercera División sideCD Covadonga.[10] He returned to Oviedo on 28 June 2009, with the club now in theSegunda División B,[11] and retired in 2010 aged 32.[9]

Ania won the1995 UEFA European Under-18 Championship withSpain, being an unused squad member.[12] He was alsoselected for the1997 FIFA World Youth Championship, making four appearances inMalaysia for the quarter-finalists.[13]

Coaching career

After retiring, Ania played in theLiga de Fútbol Indoor with Oviedo before being appointed manager of Covadonga on 8 December 2011.[14] He left on 21 June 2013,[15] and returned to the former on 18 November at the helm of the B team.[16]

Ania took overCaudal Deportivo on 11 June 2015,[17] achieving promotion to the third tier in hisfirst year.[2] He left in May 2017,[18] becoming head coach ofCF Villanovense the following month.[19]

On 17 May 2018, afternarrowly missing out a play-off spot, Ania left Villanovense[20] and was appointed atRacing de Santander also in the third division.[21] He led the club to promotion at the end ofthe season, but was dismissed on 11 November 2019.[22]

On 21 June 2021, Ania joinedAlgeciras CF ofPrimera División RFEF, signing a four-year contract.[23] He departed on 27 June 2023,[24] and took overCórdoba CF the following day.[25] In hisdebut campaign in charge, he returned theAndalusians to the professional leagues after five years; his last experience there had also been in 2019, with Racing.[26][27]
