Italia Ricci (Italian:[iˈtaːljaˈrittʃi]; born October 29, 1986[3]) is a Canadian-American[4] actress. She is known for starring as April Carver in the 2014–2015ABC Family television seriesChasing Life, for playingSiobhan Smythe / Silver Banshee inSupergirl from 2015 to 2016 and for playingWhite House Chief of Staff and Special Advisor Emily Rhodes in the television drama seriesDesignated Survivor from 2016 to 2019.
Italia Ricci was born Stephanie-Italia Ricci inRichmond Hill, Ontario, and is of Italian descent.[5][6] She graduated with herBachelor of Arts and Science in 2008 fromQueen's University (Kingston, Ontario),[6] where she undertook charitable work for causes such as Water Can, a non-profit organization creating waterholes in Africa.[7] Ricci was a Stand Up To Cancer ambassador and supporter of the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.[8]
Ricci made her major acting debut in 2007, in theAmerican Pie direct-to-video film,Beta House.[9] She then went on to have a recurring role on theDisney XD seriesAaron Stone. In 2006, Ricci also appeared in the music videoHate (I Really Don't Like You) byPlain White T's as the ex-girlfriend.
During 2009, Ricci began appearing in American productions with minor roles inHow I Met Your Mother,House, andGreek. During that same year, she had a recurring role in theComedy Central seriesSecret Girlfriend as Sasha. In 2010, she co-starred in theCartoon Network live-action seriesUnnatural History as Maggie Winnock. She also appeared in aClean & Clear commercial as herself. In 2011, she appeared in the short filmValediction. In 2013, Ricci appeared in a small role inJoseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut filmDon Jon.
From 2014 to 2015, she starred as April Carver in theABC Family seriesChasing Life.[10][11] Ricci joined the cast ofSupergirl in December 2015 asSiobhan Smythe / Silver Banshee.[12] In September 2016, Ricci joined theABC political dramaDesignated Survivor, as Emily Rhodes.[13] The show was renewed byNetflix for a third season which was released on June 7, 2019[14] but was not renewed by Netflix for a fourth season.[15]
She has also appeared in films for theHallmark Channel, includingRome in Love andLove in Winterland.[16][17]
In 2022, Ricci starred inThe Imperfects as Dr. Sydney Burke. The ten-episode first season premiered onNetflix on September 8 in the United States.[18]
In 2023, Ricci starred in the Hallmark Channel filmCatch Me If You Claus.[19]
Ricci began dating Canadian actorRobbie Amell in July 2008 after meeting whilst filmingAmerican Pie Presents: Beta House.[20] They became engaged on August 19, 2014,[21] and were married on October 15, 2016.[22] Their first child, a son, was born in September 2019.[23] Ricci and Amell both became citizens of the United States in January 2020.[1][2]
