Itabirito is amunicipality in theMinas Gerais state ofBrazil. Its population is estimated to have 52,446 people in 2020. The city belongs to the mesoregion Metropolitan ofBelo Horizonte and to the microregion ofOuro Preto.

The municipality contains 10% of the 31,270 hectares (77,300 acres)Serra do Gandarela National Park, created in 2014.[2]

During the 19th century, there was a high influx of immigration to Itabirito, caused both by gold mining and the construction of the railroad.

Telê Santana (1931–2006),soccercoach of the Brazilian professional team during the1982 World Cup and1986 World Cup editions. He is regarded as one of the greatest innovators in the history of Brazilian soccer.
