Ismail El Abassi (born 27 February 1983) is a Dutch politician from theDENK party. He is a member of theHouse of Representatives.
In the2023 Dutch general election he was elected to theDutch House of Representatives.[1] In a debate, El Abassi called for a ban on theburning of religious books, stressing a rise inantisemitic andIslamophobic incidents and the importance forindividuals to practice their religion safely. Minister of Justice and SecurityDilan Yeşilgöz responded that such expressions should remain legal in aliberal democracy.[2]
El Abassi played football for the youth team ofFC Utrecht.[4]
