Saint Kitts and Nevis is aChristian majority country, with adherents ofIslam being a minority. Due tosecular nature of the country's constitution,Muslims are free to proselytize and build places of worship in the country.
Historically, similar to most countries withinthe Americas, the first known Muslims to step foot on Saint Kitts and Nevis wereenslaved Africans brought over by European powers to work on plantations. Gradually, they were mostlyconverted to Christianity due tomissionary work.
According to local census report of 2011, Muslims are 244 in population and constitute approximately 1.9% of the population inSaint Kitts and Nevis.[1][2] There are two Islamic centres/mosques and several Islamic organisations in the islands.[3] Muslim Student Organisations are also present in the local universities like theWindsor University School of Medicine.[4][5][6]
