Ishmael Yartey (born 11 January 1990) is a Ghanaian professionalfootballer who plays as aleft midfielder orleft winger for Norwegian clubAlta.[1]
Yartey began his youth and professional career with Ghanaian clubAll Blacks F.C., before joiningS.L. Benfica on a one-year loan deal with a buy option at the end of thecontract.[2] Former Benfica managerQuique Flores was the first manager that called Yartey to train with the senior squad, but he never debuted for the first team.[3]
On 15 July 2009, Yartey left Benfica and signed a one-yearloan deal withS.C. Beira Mar. At the end of the season he signed forC.D. Fátima, on another one-year loan.[4] In January 2011 he was loaned to Beira-Mar for a second time, for the remainder of the2010–11 Primeira Liga season.[5]
On 21 June 2011, he was again loaned, this time toServette F.C. of theSwiss Super League until the end of the2011–12 Swiss Super League.[6]
On 19 July 2012, after returning to Benfica from his Servette loan, Yartey signed a four-year contract with FrenchLigue 1 clubFC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
On 26 March 2015, Yartey signed a loan contract withPortland Timbers ofMLS with a transfer option from French Ligue 1 club FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.[7]
Yartey completed his move to Finnish top-flight side KPV Kokkola in July 2019.[8] He scored on his competitive debut for KPV.[9] He was voted the MVP on his debut game forKPV.[10] Yartey also won the Man of the Match Award against giants HJK Helsinki.[11] In that game he scored a wonderful goal for KPV.[12]
In January 2020, Yartey signed for Saudi sideHetten FC.[13]
In February 2021, Yartey signed for FinlandVeikkausliiga sideFC Haka.[14] He scored two goals in March 2021 in pre-season friendly games for Haka.[15][16] In January 2022, Yartey signed forBahrain Premier League sideAl Hidd Club after leaving Haka.
In August 2022, Yartey returned toKPV until the end of the 2022 season.[17]
Yartey representedGhana U-17 (Black Starlets) in the2007 FIFA U-17 World Cup inKorea Republic.[18]
On 16 May 2012, Yartey was called up for two of theGhana national team's2014 FIFA World Cup qualifications, against Lesotho inKumasi, Ashanti, Ghana, and on 1 June 2012 and against Zambia inNdola, Copperbelt Province, Zambia, on 9 June 2012.[19]
